Walt Disney Imagineering has revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is in the “final stages” of construction at Epcot.

Imagineering’s Walt Disney World site portfolio executive Zach Riddley has revealed the groundbreaking Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster is nearing completion at Epcot.

“We are deep in the final stages of preparing our first Other World Showcase pavilion at Epcot with our Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction,” Riddley said in an Instagram post.

Described as a storytelling coaster, Cosmic Rewind will be one of the longest indoor coasters in the world. It features a groundbreaking ride system, vehicles that rotate 360 degrees and the first reverse launch on a Disney coaster.

“This stunning new addition to Epcot will feature some firsts for the park – our first roller coaster attraction, a brand-new storytelling coaster technology, and one of the longest indoor coasters in the world,” he added.

“This is a story and a set of characters that expand Epcot’s strong legacy of real science brought to life in fantastic ways – discovering the wonders and mysteries of our galaxy and galaxies beyond.”

Disney is yet to reveal an official opening date for Cosmic Rewind. However, Riddley revealed in a later Instagram post that Epcot’s Space 220 restaurant is opening on September 20.

Another milestone in the historic transformation of Epcot, Space 220 is an out-of-this-world dining experience located adjacent to the Mission: SPACE attraction.

Walt Disney Imagineering executive producer Michael Hundgen previously told Blooloop: “You’ll board this hovering spacecraft that allows you to dine literally among the stars and have a great meal with views back down to planet Earth.”

Walt Disney World recently shared a behind-the-scenes video of its nighttime show Harmonious, launching on October 1 at Epcot as part of the Florida resort’s 50th anniversary.
