“Our Imagineers are working with Jim Cameron and his team,” said Disneyland‘s president.

Disneyland and Walt Disney Imagineering are working with James Cameron on a new Avatar experience at the resort in California.

The planned Avatar attraction was first announced by Disney CEO Bob Iger earlier this year, but during the OC Forum event on 18 May, Disneyland president Ken Potrock revealed more.

He said the recent Avatar news was “a surprise to me” (via the Orange County Register), adding: “Not kidding. It’s great when you hear from your boss what you’re doing.”

“Our Imagineers are working with Jim Cameron and his team,” Potrock confirmed. “We’re going to share lots more details as they become available.

“By the way, as I become aware of what the heck we’re going to do,” he added. “But stay tuned, it’s going to be really exciting. We’re thinking bold.”

Iger mentioned the Avatar experience for Disneyland during a quarterly earnings call in February. “We’re going to bring a version of Avatar to Disneyland,” he said.

Pandora – The World of Avatar, a 12-acre themed land, increased attendance at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida, Iger said on the call.

At the OC Forum, Disneyland also pitched its expansion plans, called ‘DisneylandForward’, to Orange County business leaders.

“This is the next generation of the Disneyland resort,” Potrock said. “When Disney invests, all boats rise and everyone benefits.”

The presentation included concept art of Disney’s international theme park projects, from the Tangled, Frozen and Peter Pan lands at Tokyo DisneySea to the Zootopia-themed land at Shanghai Disneyland.

In more news, the new Disney Vacation Club property at Disneyland will feature a splash pad inspired by Steamboat Willie, Disney’s 1928 short film.

The Villas at Disneyland Hotel will have a pool area, with the boat from Steamboat Willie offering water play features including a waterfall, fog effects, jets and fountains.
