Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park is adding a new ride for 2017. The Haunted Mine Drop thrill ride will plunge down a 120 ft shaft making it a bigger drop than Disney’s Tower of Terror.
Themed as an old mine shaft, the Haunted Mine Drop will have a ghost story woven around it as well as drawing from mining history.
Those wanting to take the ride will be treated as if it’s their first day at work, going on an unusual job orientation provided by a couple of ghosts.
Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park‘s owner Steve Beckley explains, “It’s your first day of work, and the ghosts will tell stories about what happened there and why the mine had to be closed because of ghostly activity. Then, boom, the floor drops out and it’s a free fall to the bottom.”
The ride, which is set to open summer 2017, is being designed and built by Stan Checketts of Utah. Checketts also built the giant swing and zip line ride at the Caverns. Creative Visions will provide the hologram imaging featured on the ride.
The Haunted Mine Drop is part of a $2.5 million investment programme for the Caverns which will feature improved facilities and landscaping works.
