New images have been released of an abandoned theme park north of Tokyo that recall 1970’s horror movie, Westworld.

The film, starring Yul Bryner, was reimagined in the recent HBO sci-fi television series.

Orignally opened as Kinugawa Family Ranch, the theme park was later rebranded as Western Village. It featured animatronic cowboys including a figure of Hollywood legend, John Wayne.

Other attractions included Disney-style Wild West shows and a cowboy ghost house experience.

Photographer Lee Chapman’s images feature eerie cowboy figures in themed settings, some in an eerie state of decay but some remarkably undamaged.

The park closed its doors in 2006.
