Lotte World is set to develop a new theme park VR attraction. “Across Dark” will be introduced to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Lotte World Adventure, the indoor section of South Korea’s Lotte World.

Lotte World Adventure announced it will launch “Across Dark” to coincide with its 30th anniversary next year.  The VR attraction is described as “a cinematic VR format that expresses virtual reality with cinematic techniques.”  The South Korean park says its ambition is to “lead the virtual reality industry.”

The story involves Mia who launches on an adventure in space to look for her missing father.

A distribution contract has been signed with CJ 4DPLEX Co. The attraction was shown to the trade at IAAPA Asia Pacific’s Asian Attractions Expo 2018 in Hong Kong.

“To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Lotte World in 2019, we plan to showcase the theme park-style cinematic VR attraction, theme park-type survival VR attraction for 16 people, and other contents that utilize diverse media technologies,” said Park Dong-gi, CEO of Lotte World.  “We will offer various kinds of programmes to our customers as an advanced theme park that actively introduces technology.”

The attraction will be jointly developed by Lotte World and 3D Factory. It will contain pre-show and post-show content.

Lotte World is located in Sincheon-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, South Korea.  It comprises two main sections – its outdoor amusement park Magic Island and its indoor park, Adventure, the largest indoor theme park in the world.  Back in May, the park revealed details of its Lotte’s Magic Forest theme park development.
