New Look to Destination Design Firm PGAV Destinations

News

World-renowned Missouri artist captures essence of travel in massive mural.

A massive mural titled The Architecture of Dreams now adorns the walls of St. Louis-based firm PGAV Destinations, delighting guests and wowing staff.

PGAV commissioned the work in late 2011 from famed local artist Bryan Haynes, not long after the firm had collaborated with the artist in the renovation of the Gateway Arch’s where Haynes’ mural spans the space behind new ticketing counters.

“When we hired Bryan, we challenged him to capture the spirit of what we do, not just a catalog of our history or pictures of our projects, ” said PGAV Destinations chairman Mike Konzen at the opening reception for the mural. “Rather than state our mission on the wall in words, we wanted imagery to convey that we create extraordinary, life changing visitor experiences for those who visit destinations designed by us.”

The mural is made up of eight, floor-to-ceiling panels comprising a total area of 355 square feet. Not purely pictorial, the composition of interwoven images uses projects, places, animals, and themes to create a magical, abstract landscape. The murals depict themes and elements from PGAV projects around the world.

I’m aiming for it to be a collage of beautiful elements of destinations, with something new that will capture the eye every time someone walks past it, even for the 100th time.”

A graduate of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA and a current resident of Labadie, MO, Haynes’ work has graced the pages of national magazines, international advertising campaigns, CD covers, posters, and book covers from Agatha Christie to the cover of “Scarlett” – the sequel to “Gone with the Wind.” His artwork has been represented by Bernstein & Andriulli in New York, Ron Sweet in San Francisco, and Foster Represents in St. Louis. Approximately 30 works by Bryan are currently on display in the Old Courthouse Rotunda until January 12, 2014.

His new book, New Regionalism: The Art of Bryan Haynes, is a beautiful collection of Haynes’ works – and is available for purchase on his website, Facebook, and numerous book signings. The PGAV Destinations mural is featured in this book.
