Paramount Pictures signs construction agreement for Bali theme park

Paramount-branded attraction will feature an Indonesian-inspired ride.

Paramount Pictures has signed an agreement with Indonesian company Kios to build a Paramount-themed destination in Bali, set to be one of the largest theme parks in Southeast Asia.

Ade Sulistioputra, managing director of Kios, said the the 57-hectare theme park is projected to attract more than 5 million visitors in its first year.


"Paramount is a global brand that captures the imagination of everyone from children to adults," Sulistioputra said. "We all have exciting memories of Paramount films with a legacy of excellence that has lasted 110 years."

Kios plans to "tap into Paramount Pictures' library of over 1,000 films and use brands and characters that will appeal to people of all ages", Sulistioputra added.

Other attractions "may draw on Nickelodeon’s characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles".

In addition, there will be two themed hotels– the Paramount Grand Resort and Nickelodeon Resort. These will offer direct access to the theme park.

Indonesian culture at new theme park

Indonesian culture will feature across the attraction, particularly in the 'Land of Legends' area, which is based on the country's myths and legends. It will have the first Indonesian-inspired ride at an international theme park.

Ty Granaroli, Paramount Global’s executive VP of themed entertainment and experiences, said: "We believe that the beauty of Bali, combined with integrated resort hotels and a Paramount theme park will create a magnificent entertainment project that all of Indonesia can be proud of."

"A park like this can have a significant, long-term impact on tourism, including domestic and international visitors."

Elsewhere, an$8 billionParamount-brandedtheme park resort is being constructed in China. It will feature six themed areas, including aStar Trekzone called ‘Final Frontier’.

Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment is also developing a Paramount theme parkat the Inspire Korea integrated resort (IR), whichcould bedelayed beyond 2025.

Paramount's portfolio of brands includes CBS, Showtime Networks, Paramount Pictures,

Nickelodeon, MTV, and Comedy Central.
