Sesame Street theme park to open its first wooden-steel hybrid coaster

North America’s only Sesame StreetĀ® -themed amusement park, Sesame PlaceĀ®, is to open its first wooden-steel hybrid coaster.

Oscar’s Wacky Taxi™, themed on the much-loved Sesame Street character, is set to be one of the largest projects in the park’s 37-year history.

Billed as the park’s ‘biggest, grouchiest, most exciting ride ever’, the family-friendly coaster features Oscar at the wheel of a yellow taxi cab.

Riders will be sent hurtling down an exhilarating 40 foot drop, before rocketing along 1,200 feet of track. The journey promises air time hills and plenty of thrilling twists and turns.

A thrilling addition to the park

“Oscar’s Wacky Taxi™ will bring a whole new level of excitement to Sesame Place in 2018,” reports park president, Bob Caruso.

“We’re constantly looking for ways to enhance our guest experience. Our first wooden roller coaster is an exciting and thrilling addition to the park.”

Oscar’s Wacky Taxi™ is the first coaster to be installed at the park since Super Grover’s Vapor TrailĀ® opened back in 1998.

Alongside the two coasters, the 14-acre park boasts two popular themed lands ā€“ Elmo’s World which opened in 2006 and Cookie’s Monster Land which opened in 2014. Altogether, Sesame Place features a total of eleven dry rides, nine water attractions, five interactive play elements, the Sesame Street Neighbourhood, three live daily character shows and The Neighborhood Street Party Parade.

Sesame Place, located just north of Philadelphia, was voted one of the “10 Best Theme Parks for Families” by Parents Magazine. The park is owned and operated by SeaWorld Entertainment Inc.

Children’s TV show, Sesame Street, first hit television screens back in 1969 and has been loved by generations of children. The combination of humour and educational content delivered by Jim Henson’s Muppet characters has proved universally popular across the world and has been broadcast in 140 countries.
