Rise of retailtainment: TEA to support leisure zone at MAPIC retail trade show

For the first time, MAPIC, the leading retail real estate trade show, will get the support of The Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), the international non-profit association representing the world’s leading creators, developers, designers and producers of compelling places and experiences.

MAPIC gathers over 8,400 real estate professionals including 2,100 retailers for 3 days of networking and deal making. TEA will support the MAPIC Leisure zone which gathers international leisure experience designers showcasing entertainment solutions for shopping malls.

Shopping centres are increasingly becoming retail and leisure destinations as landlords use entertainment to activate their retail space to attract and retain visitors. This is why leisure has become an important segment at MAPIC.

While amusement and attractions shows usually connect leisure industry professionals from amusement parks/ theme parks with attractions suppliers, MAPIC fills the gap between shopping destinations developers and leisure operators.

Connecting shopping centre developers and leisure operators

In 2016 the following key leisure names were among the MAPIC exhibitors: Ai Solve, Bounce, Forrec, Freedome, Global Attractions, International Play Company, Ip2 Entertainment, KCC, Kompan, Paragon Creative, Playtime, Qubicaamf, The Leisure Way, Top Golf and Walltopia.

This year, MAPIC will play host to over 20 leisure pitching sessions and 2 conference panel sessions. TEA will be co-organising the two leisure conferences and Klaus Sommer Paulsen, TEA, EME Division Board Member, will moderate the panel discussion.

One conference will be on Family Entertainment Centres and the second conference will discuss the collaboration between shopping centres and leisure operators for a better mutual understanding.

The Themed Entertainment Association will support MAPIC on planning and moderating the leisure panel discussion. It will focus on the integration of retail and leisure disciplines, and how developers and operators from either discipline can benefit from collaborations in creating experience spaces to attract and retain customers.

MAPIC will also be present for the second time at the Euro Attraction Show in September 2017, confirming the importance of leisure as a key part of the retail destination strategy.

MAPIC runs from 15-17 November 2017 at the Palais des Festivals, Cannes, France.
