The Goddard Group, leading international theme park designers, are to design Haichang Group’s Polar Ocean World in Shanghai.
In addition to conceptualizing and master planning the project, Goddard Group are currently working with Haichang on the subsequent design phases.
This ambitious project is one of the key elements of the Shanghai Government’s five year development plan for the tourism industry.
The project is Haichang’s seventh polar themed attraction in China and represents an important strategic milestone for the Group, both in terms of developing a ground-breaking world class theme park, as well as providing an extended geographical reach not only within China, but also for future expansion into East Asia.
Commenting on the announcement, Gary Goddard said, “We are excited and honored to be part of this ground-breaking new attraction in Shanghai. The goal has been to create a park that will offer a uniquely different experience than the Disney park, providing a complimentary yet equally compelling attraction for families the world over.”
Shanghai Haichang Polar Ocean World, set to open in 2017, will include a world class marine theme park, a themed resort hotel and commercial facilities on a 297, 155 sq m site. The theme park will include four large animal interaction plazas, four large cinemas, 13 exhibition halls, 18 medium to large amusement rides and offer education programmes, special effects films, exhibitions and water-borne parades.
Director of Design at Goddard Group, Taylor Jeffs, explains, “We have been busy creating attractions that are original and without precedent in China. We are merging rides, theatres and aquatic arenas in a way that will make an emotional connection with our audiences. We want our visitors to be entertained and wowed, to be excited and surprised, and we want to touch their hearts too. We are looking to create a truly wonderful way of connecting family with nature and the ocean, and to do it in a way that will make memories to last a lifetime.”
