The Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), a non-profit representing compelling places and experiences worldwide, has revealed further details of its upcoming SATE event in Europe.
The event will be held at Liseberg amusement park in Gothenburg, Sweden, from 4 – 7 May 2022.
SATE represents the key components that create the formula of themed entertainment, these being Story + Architecture + Technology = Experience. SATE encourages a collaborative production culture of production, through which designers, technologists and clients work closely in a more level team structure where members are more horizontal than hierarchical.
The TEA added its SATE conference to its schedule in 2007, encouraging dialogue in the business community about best practices in experience design. Last year’s event was hosted by PortAventura World in Spain.
A year of development
This year’s conference theme will be ‘Celebration’, with the themed entertainment industry continuing to persevere and flourish against one of the sector’s most challenging times in recent history. The TEA will be championing organisations and leaders by focusing on industry successes and strategies to celebrate at the Swedish destination.
Park CEO Andreas Andersen returned to managing Liseberg in 2020, successfully steering the destination through the COVID-19 crisis. The park is undergoing an extensive expansion project, with the Oceana indoor water park and the Liseberg Grand Curiosa themed hotel currently in development. The final day of the conference will see a hard hat tour of the expansion project.
Attendees will also be able to inspect the new Luna Park area, comprising of a Zamperla Nebulaz ride which features four axes that rotate. A boomerang coaster will be added in 2023 as part of the phased ride investment.
Other recent developments include Liseberg’s latest roller coaster, and Europe’s longest dive coaster which opened in 2018. Valkyria plunges riders into an underground tunnel at a speed of 105 km/h, with a signature Immelmann inversion and zero-g roll.
The multi-award-winning Underlandet dark ride also won European Star Award for Europe’s Best New Ride in 2021.
