Vekoma Rides, the Dutch roller coaster specialist, has announced that building work has started on the new Vekoma campus in Vlodrop in the Netherlands.
The firm has grown significantly over the years, which has resulted in shifting logistical requirements, and the need for additional space.
A representative from the company says: “The construction sign has been unveiled, and the initial work is in full swing. Vekoma is building the future!”
Innovative & high-quality campus
A fire in the early 1990s led to the establishment of temporary offices, which lack capacity, have illogical layouts, and do not conform with current regulatory requirements.
The firm’s facilities extend across 4.5 hectares and include a factory, warehouse, offices, and storage yards in Vlodrop, a factory in Roermond for full-track production, and an office in Breda. Vekoma also hires storage spaces for track components and spare parts.
The current facility lacks capacity and storage and is out of date, so Vekoma has been investigating new locations. Vlodrop is important to the firm since it is convenient for its employees and offers the required facilities.
The new Vekoma campus is located on Vlodrop’s former football field, on Angsterweg. The campus’s cutting-edge and high-quality features reflect Vekoma’s products, and symbolises the firm’s identity as “a progressive company focused on providing innovative and high-quality solutions to its customers.” The development aims to facilitate connectivity between employees and production processes in a verdant, inspiring setting.
The campus will have around 300 workstations, two kinds of production halls, a large warehouse, and a multi-storey office building with conference rooms and a restaurant. All buildings will feature cutting-edge technology to enhance employee productivity, efficiency, and innovation.
Relocating the headquarters, assembly, and warehousing will create room in the current Schaapweg location. Parts of the current offices will be demolished and rebuilt to facilitate full-track production. Vekoma will integrate two locations (Roermond and Vlodrop) to create one unified facility.
Sustainable approach
Vekoma employs the DCBA method and a thorough approach to support its sustainability goals. It also plans to investigate the potential for sustainability certification, such as BREEAM qualification or WELL certification.
A spokesperson from the firm says: “Legislation regarding sustainability is being tightened annually. Additionally, reducing the ecological footprint is of general importance. Sustainability will also be a key focus for the new Vekoma campus and the revamped track production location.”
The transformation of the current offices into the track manufacturing facility prioritises sustainability, with a focus on improving climate control and enhancing working conditions.
Vekoma Rides recently exhibited at the IAAPA Expo in Orlando, where it presented its latest products and services such as the award-winning Family Launch Coasters, Big Bear Mountain at Dollywood in the US and Lightning at Furuvik in Sweden.
