Wonderla Holidays plansto complete the purchase of land for its new Chennai theme park by June 2017.
There has been a delay in the acquisition of the land after a Madras High Court banned the use of agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes.The Hindu Times reports that Wonderla needs a 50-55 acre site. Some part of the original parcel under consideration may be able to be retained. Construction is plannedto begin on the ₹300-350 crore new theme park by the third quarter of the coming fiscal year.
Wonderla signed a three year MoU in September 2015 with the Tamil Nadu government to build a theme park by 2019.
Wonderla already owns andoperates theme parks in Kochi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
