SeaWorld‘s new ambulances are a “game-changer in animal rescue

Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue in Abu Dhabi has introduced the region’s first ambulances for marine wildlife in partnership with the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi.

Located next door to SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, the research and rescue centre is home to state-of-the-art equipment and infrastructure, a rescue clinic, and a veterinary hospital.

The new ambulances are also equipped with special state-of-the-art equipment and operated by a skilled team – offering 24/7 assistance across the UAE.

Rob Yordi, general curator at SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, said the project represents “a significant leap forward in our commitment to marine life conservation“.

“This initiative is a crucial stride towards safeguarding our region’s precious marine life and preserving the delicate balance of our ecosystem. These resources will ensure timely and specialized assistance for distressed animals, reinforcing our dedication to their wellbeing.”

The rescue ambulances, Yordi said, are a “game-changer in animal rescue“. They are designed to serve a wide range of marine wildlife, from birds to mammals.

Equipment on the vehicles includes dolphin and dugong stretchers, water sprayers, essential items such as towels, tubes, funnels and gloves.

“It is important to recognize the importance of collaboration when it comes to the conservation and rescue of wildlife,” said Ahmed Al Hashmi, executive director of the terrestrial and marine biodiversity sector at the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi.

The initiative “will not only make the rescue and conservation efforts more efficient, but also extend the reach of our conservation initiatives to a wider level”, he added.

“Together, we can protect and preserve our precious environment and its inhabitants for generations to come.”

The team at Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue includes marine scientists, veterinarians, animal care professionals and marine animal rescue experts and educators.

SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, developed by Miral in partnership with SeaWorld, opened to the public in May.

Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of Miral, said the park is “unparalleled in the region and the world on every level”.
