Zamperla, a leading ride manufacturer, has announced the opening of its first Twister Freeform coaster, Wild Mouse, at Cedar Point.

The new coaster has debuted as part of the park’s expansion, Boardwalk. The inspiration for this new area was its past, taking three classic attractions from the park and moving them to this new space. A new eating area, the Grand Pavilion, was also created alongside the new Zamperla ride.

An updated classic

“The Twister Freeform is an updated version of our classic Twister Coaster. When we spoke with Cedar Point they asked us to provide an experience that gave a nod to the past, but offered a modern ride experience. We believe it is a great example of the next generation of Zamperla coasters,” explains Zamperla president and CEO, Antonio Zamperla.

Carrie Boldman, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point, says: “The addition of Wild Mouse perfectly balances the setting and attractions of The Boardwalk – our new lakeside midway area. Being a part of family tradition is very important to all of us at Cedar Point.

“Wild Mouse allows young kids and adults to enjoy a ‘first’ roller coaster thrill together, and the spinning action of each car just makes it fun!”

Going beyond ADA compliance

Six of the seven ride vehicles are themed as different mice. The seventh is a cheese car that is used as the vehicle for guests who need ADA access.

Sales director of the Americas at Zamperla, Ramon Rosario, says that “working to go beyond ADA compliance is extremely important to us”. He adds: “The cheese car not only looks great it features a hinged door that opens allowing riders transferring from a wheelchair easier vehicle access.”

This new Twister Freeform has many small changes from the original Twister Coaster that Zamperla has been selling for more than 20 years. It has an hourly capacity of 660 pph, and features a twisting and spiral drop, snapback, two wild mouse turns and more.

“Cedar Point challenged our design team in a lot of ways,” explains Adam Sandy, Zamperla’s roller coaster sales and marketing director. “We went back to the drawing board and created a custom layout just for the park. We are thrilled with not only the layout, but the ride as a whole.

“It delivers in the way that Zamperla promised with the re-introduction of the Roller Coaster Business Unit in 2021. The ride is exciting, smooth and features the latest coaster technology. It is a huge step up from older Zamperla coasters and lays a new benchmark for our coaster quality.”

Zamperla recently announced the opening of two new attractions at Walibi Holland, a Junior Coaster 200 and a Magic Bikes 6.
