City of Lelystad opens tender opportunity for new waterpark resort

News
Lelystad plans for waterpark resort

Lelystad, a fast-growing city in the Netherlands, is located about 40 minutes from Amsterdam and is a part of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. It is home to an upcoming international airport and innovative business districts, with the backdrop of a large nature reserve and dynamic wetlands. The city of Lelystad lies in the middle of the nation and is very accessible by air, boat, land, and train, providing the ideal setting for successful leisure operations.

It is also home to the Batavia Quarter, one of the most well-known places in the Netherlands for shopping, entertainment, and dining. Three million people currently visit this destination and its amenities every year, including the Batavia Stad Fashion Outlet, Batavialand Museum, the port, and more.

Lelystad Batavia Quarter

Now, the city of Lelystad has made the decision to transform this location into an impressive and distinctive leisure hotspot for northwest Europe.

An extreme adventure park, an expansion of the Fashion Outlet Centre, additional bars and restaurants, a sizable indoor entertainment complex, a themed attraction boardwalk (pay-per-ride), a high-end hotel on the harbour’s head, a river cruise terminal with a direct connection to Amsterdam, and an international standard waterpark resort are all planned for the area.

In the upcoming years, everything at this well-established waterfront location will be enhanced, making it a multi-day attraction for all types of visitors, both locals and tourists.

Plans for a world-class waterpark & hotel

The waterpark hotel is the first stage. Lelystad views this as a fantastic opportunity to establish a first impression and connect with visitors of the Batavia Stad Fashion Outlet.

Planned developments Lelystad

In addition, a world-class waterpark resort is planned on a block of land measuring around 2 hectares (or 5 acres), next to the Fashion Outlet and the new Batavialand Experience Centre. This will include themed rooms with an outstanding view over the IJsselmeer and spectacular slides for all ages.

As a result, the city extends an invitation to waterpark operators, investors, and developers from across the globe to join this hotspot and take part in the tender opportunity. The tender is now open.

In a statement, the city government says:

“We invite waterpark investors/developers/operators to jump on this amazing ride at one of the biggest leisure developments in northwest Europe. With already 3 million visitors, the Batavia Quarter is the hotspot for leisure and entertainment at an engaging waterfront destination.

“The Batavia Quarter is the place to be when it comes to living, staying, enjoying nature and fun! This opportunity for a Waterpark Hotel is the first of many big developments to emphasise our goal to become an impressive hotspot for entertainment and shopping. All at a beautiful waterfront site in Lelystad.”
