Building work to start on Therme Manchester wellbeing resort and water park

The EventCity space has been demolished to make way for the 28-acre resort.

Building work is due to start on Therme Manchester, a new £250 million wellbeing resort and water park adjacent to the Trafford Palazzo shopping mall.

Peel L&P, the property developer behind the project, has now demolished the 28,000-square-metre EventCity space to make way for the 28-acre resort (via Manchester Evening News).

Therme Manchester will feature a year-round urban beach and a ‘next-generation’ water park. It will also offer thermal bathing, a wellbeing spa, immersive digital art, an urban farm and botanical gardens.

In addition, Therme Manchester will boast the world’s first ‘living waterslides’, as well as 35 water slides, 25 pools, and 30 saunas and steam rooms.

James Whittaker, Peel L&P’s executive director of development, said: “Therme Manchester is a landmark development for the north and something the UK has never seen before.

“It’s incredibly exciting to see the land being prepared to welcome the resort to TraffordCity and we’re proud to help bring such an amazing attraction to the North West, which we know will be enjoyed by so many people across the country whether it’s for a fun family day out, relaxation or educational trips.”

Richard Land, Therme Group‘s chief development officer, added: “We are delighted to see the demolition works complete; it is fantastic to see the site cleared and showing its amazing potential to be a global wellbeing destination.

“It defines a key milestone for us as we continue our journey to bring Therme to Manchester, a perfect location for our first facility in the UK.”

Therme Manchester is part of TraffordCity, which is home to shopping centres and an indoor snow centre. Additionally, the £60 million Modern Surf project is on track at TraffordCity.

Therme Group currently has four resorts in Europe. The company is developing aquatic attractions across the world, in locations including CanadaGlasgow, New York City, Frankfurt and South Korea.
