Polin Trabzon Aquarium Tunnel

The one-of-a-kind attraction showcases nature from around the world in Turkey

Polin Aquariums, a leader in international aquarium installation, has completed a major project in Turkey, resulting in a unique world-first experience for the country.

Being the first aquarium in the Black Sea region, it is also a new landmark of Trabzon’s Zagnos and Tabakhane valleys, built in a tunnel connecting the two, and as such is the only aquarium exhibit of its type in the world. The aquarium covers an area of 3,500 square metres, with eight zones for guests to explore.

Education and insight

The first section showcases the lakes and rivers of the world, displaying notable species from the Amazon River, Lake Malawi and Lake Tanganyika. After a look at these key water bodies, the Terrarium Zone displays reptiles from different regions, and then the aquarium’s Experience Zone provides guests with unique insight into the daily routine of its aquarists and biologists.

The second half of the venue houses the fourth zone, home to the diverse fish species found in different sea habitats, followed by the Shark Hall. The aquarium explores the anatomy of the shark and its habitat, alongside other educational content designed to interpret one of nature’s most extraordinary creatures.

After surveying many aquatic animals, guests can then get a closer look. The Touch and Discover Zone educates guests with a variety of encounter experiences with finger-friendly creatures. The penultimate section, the Caved Zone, takes guests down to the deep waters to find species that prefer to hide in the darkness.

The grand finale is the main attraction – a twenty-one meter-long consisting of a range of aquatic species, the majority of which are sourced from the Turkish seas. Trabzon Aquarium is now open to the public.

Polin Aquariums has also been celebrating its work on The Sea Shell Aquarium, a major complex which recently opened in Vietnam. The venue contains more than 20 million litres of water, as well as 70 compact filtration units and a wide variety of marine wildlife.
