Cruise Saudi has appointed Taha Nazer as its acting CEO to oversee the cruise company's next phase of growth.

Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) launched Cruise Saudi in 2021 in an effort to develop the Kingdom's cruise industry, in line with Vision 2030.

Nazer is replacing Lars Clasen, who during his tenure established Aroya Cruises, created cruise destinations across the Kingdom, and led the development of the Aman at Sea marine hospitality brand.

The appointment of Nazer comes as Cruise Saudi enters its next phase of growth, which will focus on operational excellence, reaching profitability, and continuing a customer-centric approach.

Nazer, who has served as Cruise Saudi's chief financial officer since 2023, boasts more than 19 years' experience across the oil and gas, aviation and cruise sectors.

In his role as acting CEO, Nazer will lead Cruise Saudi across all strategic, commercial, operational and financial priorities, including the continued development of the cruise business in Saudi Arabia, cruise destination development across the Kingdom, and the company's international projects.

Raid Bin Abdullah Ismail, chairman of Cruise Saudi, said the board has appointed Nazer "with full confidence in his ability to lead the company through this phase".

"His deep understanding of the business, strong commercial, financial and governance expertise, and proven track record make him the right leader to ensure continuity, drive performance, and deliver on our long-term strategic and commercial objectives," he added.

Nazer said: "Our focus remains on strengthening performance and accelerating the delivery of our strategic and commercial objectives, while creating real and sustainable value."

Aroya to resume sailings

He also confirmed that Aroya Cruises, the first Arabian cruise line, will resume sailings on 14 May after a short hiatus due to the ongoing conflict in the region.

The Aroya vessel "is on her way to Jeddah", Nazer said, adding that Aroya will "operate distinctive Red Sea itineraries across Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan".

"These sailings also mark the lead-in to Aroya's second Mediterranean season in June, as we continue to expand the brand’s reach and elevate the guest experience," he said.

As for Aman at Sea, "delivery of the vessel [is] expected in 2027", Nazer said.
