Founded by Alexander Azary and Talla 2XLC, the new museum will be a space to learn about the history of electronic music.

The Museum of Modern Electronic Music (MOMEM) is opening to the public in Frankfurt on April 6, 2022 with an exhibition by German DJ Sven Väth and German sculptor Tobias Rehberger.

Founded by Alexander Azary and Talla 2XLC, MOMEM will be a space to explore the history of electronic music across seven sections. Visitors will learn about electronic music’s various genres and subgenres.

The museum will house immersive installations and temporary exhibitions. The opening exhibition is a collaboration between Väth and Rehberger, titled ‘Sven Väth – It’s simple to tell what saved us from hell’.

“There is no better opening exhibition for MOMEM,” said MOMEM director Alex Azary. “Sven Väth and Tobias Rehberger have each, in their own way, taken electronic music culture from Frankfurt to the world.”

Immersive installations and exhibitions

Frankfurt is one of the birthplaces of European electronic music. The museum will offer lectures and workshops with DJs, producers and artists, as well as movie nights, concerts and club nights.

“MOMEM will be a place to explore, conserve and relive the historical dimensions and influences of electronic music,” the website says. “A journey from the beginning to the future.”

“A place of continuous movement and transformation, turning from museum into stage into bar into academy,” it adds. “A reactive environment in the heart of Frankfurt. A museum not for visitors but for guests.”

Elsewhere, a museum dedicated to electronic music called Our House recently launched in Amsterdam. Our House features six exhibitions and 15 installations, including a 4D audiovisual experience called ‘The Culture Ride’.
