Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Culture has announced that it will set up the Red Sea Museum in the Bab Al Bunt building in Al-Balad, the historical area of Jeddah.
The Red Sea Museum, which will be inaugurated in late 2022, will include rare collections, as well as manuscripts, pictures and books.
These will tell the story of the historical Bab Al Bunt site as a point of contact between residents of the Red Sea coast and the world (via Saudi Gazette).
Thousands of years ago, Jeddah was a major gateway for pilgrims, merchants and tourists.

The Red Sea Museum will celebrate the cultural value that the Red Sea coast represents and the experiences of its residents.
It will include attractions that celebrate maritime navigation, trade, geology, pilgrimage, diversity and other cultural elements that have shaped Jeddah, Mecca and Medina.
The museum will contain more than 100 artworks, as well as temporary and permanent exhibitions, and educational programmes for all age groups.
The Red Sea Museum will be located in the historic area of Jeddah, which houses other museums, historic mosques and old markets.

teamLab is also heading to Saudi Arabia with the new teamLab Borderless Jeddah as part of a new 10-year collaboration agreement with the Saudi Ministry of Culture.
teamLab, an immersive and interactive art collective, will develop artworks for the new digital art museum on the Red Sea coastal city of Jeddah, set to launch by 2023.
Meanwhile, the Red Sea Development Company is building the world’s most sustainable luxury tourist destination, The Red Sea Project, with the first phase scheduled to open in 2022.
