Tutankhamun: His Tomb and His Treasures

Semmel Exhibitions, a creator of award-winning blockbuster exhibitions, is showcasing its Tutankhamun experience at the Exhibition Hub Art Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Tutankhamun: His Tomb and His Treasures opened on 28 September 2023, covering an area of more than 12,000 square feet.

The reproduction of the burial treasure in its original archaeological setting offers a unique understanding of the historically singular finding of the Pharaoh’s tomb in the Egyptian Valley of the Kings.

According to his records, British archaeologist Howard Carter exclaimed, “I see wonderful things!” on 26 November 1922 as he pushed a candle through a gap in the antechamber of the over 3,000-year-old tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun. The nearly intact pharaonic tomb with all of its riches was discovered by Carter just before the dig was abandoned in the Valley of the Kings, following five years of arduous and initially futile excavation efforts. This find is still unmatched today.

The exhibition Tutankhamun: His Tomb and His Treasures, held around a century after this extraordinary discovery, vividly recreates both this momentous occasion and the tale of the burial treasure’s discovery. Complete with 1,000 objects, alongside visuals, movies, and an audio guide, it presents the complete context in an educational, engaging and entertaining manner.

A once-in-a-lifetime insight into ancient Egypt

In order to safeguard the delicate originals, replicas were made for this display. With guidance from Egyptologists, master Egyptian artisans replicated every last detail. Collectively, they have assembled the world’s most comprehensive and distinctive collection. Tutankhamun – His Tomb and His Treasures preserves the ancient originals while providing a broad audience with access to the intriguing world of the pharaohs.

“Our exhibition offers visitors a once-in-a-lifetime insight into the archaeology of ancient Egypt,” says Christoph Scholz, director of exhibitions and international projects at Semmel Exhibitions. “Guests are taken on a journey of exploration to experience the treasures of Tutankhamun and his famous tomb chambers exactly as they were when discovered in 1922 by Howard Carter. Through our exhibitions, they relive that magical moment of discovery.”

The exhibition has been viewed by more than seven million people to date at locations including Zurich, Munich, Madrid, Budapest, Dublin, Brussels, Paris, and Seoul.

Earlier this year, Semmel Exhibitions presented the hit Marvel’s Spider-Man: Beyond Amazing – The Exhibition at Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri. A collaboration between Semmel Exhibitions and Marvel Entertainment, the popular show explored the history and legacy of Spider-Man. Further tour stops will be announced soon.
