Sharjah Museums Authority has opened a unique interactive space at the Sharjah Archaeology Museum to teach children about archaeology and the emirate’s antiquities.
Described as a “space for play and learning”, the new attraction uses unconventional teaching methods, with young visitors exploring Sharjah’s culture, history and development.
“Archaeology is a fascinating topic for children in particular as it encourages curiosity, discovery and wonder,” said Manal Ataya, director general of Sharjah Museums Authority.
Children can take in significant archaeological findings that were uncovered in Sharjah, dating back to the Stone Age and revealing more about the region’s population at the time.
“Learning about UAE archaeology and its ancient history is critical for children to understand the past and appreciate the remarkable work of archaeologists,” Ataya added.
There are activities, interactive display screens and a model of a house from Al Thuqeibah, an Iron Age archaeological site located near the town of Al Madam in Sharjah.
Highlights include a life-size model of a camel to educate children on the domestication of animals by people living in Sharjah more than 3,000 years ago.
New space for learning and play
Sharjah Museums Authority continues to introduce new “engaging and transformative experiences for children and families”, Ataya said.
“We design year-round activities and programs to inspire children through solving mysteries from clues and putting pieces together to tell untold stories of our past,” she added.
Elsewhere in the UAE, Miral has announced that SeaWorld Abu Dhabi will open in 2023. The new next-generation attraction on Yas Island is 90 percent complete, with building work set to finish in late 2022.
