Interest in adventure tourism is growing in the UAE.
According to The National, Dubai wants to inject some energy into its current image as a beach and shopping destination.
Several attractions are already leading the way including Aventura in Mirdif and Hatta Mountain Biking.
Aventura is an adventure park with zip lines and obstacles set among endangered ghaf trees.
The intention is to combine adventure with an experience of the natural world. Planned pathways through the park will allow visitors to enjoy the environment while protecting the trees.
Hatta Mountain Biking has four routes currently in place offering varying levels of difficulty. Hiking trails and kayaking are also in the pipeline.
“People won’t believe it’s the Middle East, let alone Dubai, when they see it. On the routes, people will pass parks, traditional villages, farms, the heritage village, ending at the dam,” says Mohammed Al Kaabi, one of the founders.
