CAP.Co Creates Britain’s Biggest Wooden Adventure Play Structure at Lowther Castle

News

Leading adventure play company, CAP.Co, is creating what it believes to be Britain’s biggest wooden adventure play structure at Lowther Castle in the Lake District.

The new attraction is part of the historic Lowther Estate’s ongoing programme of restoration and improvement.

CAPCO Creates Britain’s Biggest Wooden Adventure Play Structure at Lowther CastleThe ‘Lost Castle of Lowther’ is being constructed deep in woodland that forms part of the 3000 acre mediaeval deer park and includes zip wires, swings and elevated walkways.

“We want the Lost Castle to be part of inspiring family adventures and expect the adventure play area to become an intrinsic part of the development of Lowther Castle and Gardens, ensuring that the experience remains in the hearts and minds of visitors for generations to come” explains CAP.Co’s Simon Egan.

Staggering Stats

The castle is being constructed entirely on site and will take more than 3500 man and women hours to build, with the team burning nearly 300, 000 calories. The total cups of tea consumed on site by the CAP.Co build team will exceed 1500. If laid end to end, the total length of timber used would stretch for 11 miles, the whole length of Lake Windermere with a bit to spare. If stood on top of one another it would be 13 x the height of Ben Nevis.

According to Egan, the structure has been designed with full accessibility from the outset.

“Everyone deserves an opportunity to have adventure as part of their lives, ” he says.

Recent CAP.Co projects include The Adventure Cove at National Trust for Scotland’s Culzean Castle and Knights Realm Adventure Play at Leeds Castle.

The Lost Castle at Lowther is scheduled to be completed by July 15th 2016.
