The city of Los Angeles Recreation & Parks Department has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to operate the city’s iconic Greek Theater.
The ten year contract, plus five year option, will run from November 2018 and covers operating the venue and concession services.
Venue management companies should submit bids by 4 January 2018.
The historic Greek Theater is located within Griffith Park in Los Angeles and is one of the most recognisable outdoor entertainment venue thanks to frequent appearances as the backdrop to TV shows and movies.
The land was donated to the people of the city in 1882 by colourful mining magnate Colonel Griffith J. Griffith, with a further $1 million given in his will for the construction of a world-class observatory and a Greek Theater. He stipulated that “it must be made a place of recreation and rest for the masses, a resort for the rank and file, for the plain people”.
The Greek Theater runs around 70 shows between April and October. Over the years the Greek has hosted famous names in music like Sir Elton John, Frank Sinatra and Bruce Springsteen.
