Galaxyland has already started redeveloping the area where the coaster is located.

Galaxyland at Canada’s West Edmonton Mall has announced the closure of the Mindbender, billed as the world’s largest indoor triple-loop roller coaster.

The Mindbender opened at the shopping mall in Edmonton in 1985. Galaxyland has already started redeveloping the area where the coaster is located to offer new “family thrills”

“The iconic Mindbender has been the park’s premier thrill ride since the grand opening in 1985,” said Lori Bethel, the mall’s vice president of parks and attractions.

“While the Mindbender will be missed, we are excited to announce that we are working on groundbreaking new plans for family thrills that will immerse our guests in an out-of-this-world experience.”

Three people were killed on the Mindbender coaster in a crash in June 1986. The ride reopened to the public in January 1987.

In December, Galaxyland launched as a Hasbro-themed amusement park, featuring brands such as Play-Doh, Monopoly, My Little Pony, Mr. Potato Head and Operation.

New attractions include Trouble Twist, Hungry Hungry Hippos Feeding Frenzy, Sorry! Sliders Bumper Cars and Play-Doh Dizzy Doh-Dohs.

“We’re thrilled for the opening celebration of Galaxyland Powered by Hasbro and to continue our ‘Blueprint 2.0’ strategy of offering more meaningful ways for families to engage with our brands,” said Matt Proulx, VP of location-based entertainment at Hasbro (via DailyHive).

“Parents, grandparents, and kids of all ages recognize the iconic brands this amusement park showcases and our immense brand-building capabilities through unique and exciting real-life experiences,” he added.
