Six Flags Great America's American Eagle dual-track wooden coaster will race for the first time in nearly 10 years, the theme park in Illinois has announced.
Debuted in 1981, the racing ride is returning as part of the park's 50th anniversary celebration, offering a unique guest experience.
"American Eagle has been a classic of Six Flags Great America for more than four decades," said John Krajnak, park president of Six Flags Great America.
“Bringing back racing is a meaningful way to celebrate the nostalgia guests remember while delivering the kind of thrilling, shared experience that defines our park today."
During the park's 50th anniversary celebration, both sides of American Eagle will operate, with two trains racing side‑by‑side.
Six Flags Great America said the return of American Eagle’s original operation "adds a new dimension to an already landmark season".
Racing returns after nearly 10 years
The park said the attraction remains the tallest, fastest, and longest racing wooden roller coaster in the world.
The 50th anniversary event at Six Flags Great America is running from 20 June through 9 August.
The park will be open until 10pm every night during the celebration, and will offer new experiences, nostalgic theming, and more.

Six Flags Great America is a 300-acre theme park located between Chicago and Milwaukee.
Elsewhere, Six Flags Fiesta Texas has announced plans to open Werewolf Gorge, the world's longest family launch coaster, in 2027.
The record-breaking roller coaster will combine a unique mix of ride elements not found together on a single attraction, including four launches, a mid-course rollback and a 39-inch heigh requirement.
