NASA’s scientific discoveries are reimagined by Artechouse using audiovisual technology.

Artechouse, a digital art studio in New York, is launching a new exhibition to “submerge” guests in NASA’s galactical data captured by the James Webb Space Telescope.

Called ‘Beyond the Light’ and inspired by space exploration and innovation, the unique immersive experience was developed by Artechouse in partnership with NASA.

Visitors will explore the universe through technology-driven art when the show opens in New York on 1 June, before travelling to Washington, DC in the fall.

To “submerge” audiences “in the timeless story of the light surrounding us”, the exhibition utilises the latest technological tools, cinematic visuals and an original music score.

“Conceptualized through many collaborative sessions with NASA’s team of scientists and specialists, Beyond the Light takes groundbreaking science and data and brings it to life artistically in a way that’s never been done before,” said Sandro Kereselidze, Artechouse’s co-founder and chief creative officer.

To create the experience, Artechouse used the database researched and produced by NASA to bring “what is often invisible to our naked eyes into the highest resolution possible”.

Explore the universe through digital art

NASA’s scientific discoveries are reimagined by Artechouse via audiovisual technology and bespoke software. The show will be anchored by a 25-minute “cinematic journey” on how humans have experienced light over time.

The main exhibition is accompanied by six supporting installations exploring the moon, heliophysics, climate science, the biosphere and NASA spinoff technologies.

Riki Kim, Artechouse’s executive creative director, added: “Beyond the Light is equal parts knowledge and imagination, aiming to create an audiovisual experience that bypasses verbalized storytelling, making a lasting impression at the visceral level.

“Our goal is to catalyze the audience’s imagination and inspire them with the possibilities of ‘the beyond’.”

Artechouse made its debut in 2017 in Washington, DC and now has venues in Miami and NYC.
