Dubai Metaverse Assembly is being held at AREA 2071 and the Museum of the Future.

Dubai’s metaverse strategy has been unveiled at the inaugural Dubai Metaverse Assembly, where more than 500 global technology experts are exploring the future of the metaverse.

Organised by the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), the two-day event is taking place at AREA 2071 and the Museum of the Future. More than 20,000 people attended on the first day (28 September).

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said the metaverse will shape a new digital future for humanity. He said Dubai aims to be a hub for the metaverse community.

“Dubai is emerging as a major contributor to shaping a new global vision for advanced technology and a pioneer in adopting next-generation digital innovation,” said Sheikh Mohammed.

“We are constantly working to foster the development of technological tools and applications to raise the community’s quality of life,” he added.

He said the metaverse “will shape a new digital future for humanity and Dubai will consolidate its status as a testbed for innovation in this emerging technology”.

Dubai will always welcome innovators and experts to explore and design the future of the metaverse, according to Sheikh Mohammed.

The emirate plans to “provide a global platform for the metaverse community to discuss new opportunities emerging from this new technology and promote knowledge-sharing and partnerships between entrepreneurs and innovators,” he added.

The metaverse strategy aims to add $4 billion to Dubai’s GDP, support 40,000 virtual jobs by 2030, and attract 1,000 companies specialised in blockchain and metaverse technologies.

“We also look forward to discussing how the metaverse can generate solutions for some of the world’s most critical challenges,” said Sheikh Mohammed.

The strategy focuses on four sectors – tourism, education, government services, and retail and real estate.

Disney recently hired Mark Bozon, a former creative and gaming executive for Apple, to help oversee the company’s metaverse plans.
