New attraction to include VR experiences and a Dungeons & Dragons-style tavern.

Game On Cornwall is opening in Penzance with gaming-themed hotel rooms, a Dungeons & Dragons-style tavern, virtual reality (VR) experiences, an esports area and a gaming café.

The ground floor gaming area of the UK’s first gaming hotel is due to open by 3 December, followed by two upper floors of hotel rooms in March 2023, CornwallLive reports.

Game On Cornwall is the brainchild of businessman Neil Potter, who told the publication: “This is the first of its kind in the UK and isn’t the sort of thing you see in Cornwall and definitely not in Penzance.”

“In the short time since we announced the project, there has been a lot of love for it in Penzance. The reaction has been insane – a lot of people are very excited about it.

“We are sure this will bring a lot of visitors into the Penzance area.”

Game On Cornwall is described as a hotel, attraction and shop. The ground floor will be home to a retail area selling gaming products and accessories. It will also include VR experiences and a Dungeons & Dragons-style tavern room.

Another room will have a Pac-Man arcade machine, games consoles, comics and an esports area for competitive tournaments. The café and bar will serve gaming-themed mocktails, milkshakes and snacks.

“If you go to a lot of gaming places it’s very much male-centric, but we will be fully inclusive,” said Potter.

“We want everyone to feel comfortable and want it to be somewhere everyone in Penzance will be proud of.

“We are all very excited about this – I’m certain there is nowhere else like it in the UK. I’m sure gamers will travel from all over to stay here.”

In London, the Imperial War Museum has opened an exhibition called ‘War Games’, which includes a retro gaming zone.
