Powersoft shakes it up with Mover

The amplifier specialist Powersoft has launched a compact transducer, Mover, that can be used as a linear motor/shaker in 4D cinemas, theme parks and other venues with vibrating acoustic floors.

Launched at Integrated Systems Europe, Mover is a small yet incredibly powerful linear transducer that lets audiences feel sound through haptic perception by vibrating the surrounding environment. Through bone conduction, the human body picks this up and translates the vibrations into perceivable frequencies.

Powersoft offers Mover in two versions: Direct Drive and Inertial Drive. With Direct Drive, the transducer is anchored to a stationary surface. The moving magnet is connected to a movable surface, such as a floating floor or chair. Next to exciting the surface, Direct Drive is also able to create an offset of +/- 15mm. The surface will then not only shake but also give the audience the sensation of falling off or jumping over an object by moving.

The Inertial Drive version can be mounted directly to a surface. The ultra-low frequency reproduction and unmatched efficiency will excite the surface and extend the low frequency experience. Mover is also available in a low impedance and 100 Volt version.

Experiences such as rides, simulators and movie watching can benefit from integration of Mover to create fast and accurate movements that are in sync with the complete experience. It can be used to move floors or seats, both to track video content as well as transfer audible frequencies.

Mover – a powerful product in a compact package

Powersoft says that Mover is more accurate, powerful and efficient compared to existing products. Many of these suffer either from limited speed, harmonic distortion or limited frequency range.

Powersoft-Mover-2Compared to conventional moving coil arrangements, extended power handling, electromagnetic conversion, reliability and maximum SPL are a few features that have improved with Powersoft’s patented moving magnet linear motor technology.

This can also be found in the M-Force, which has found its way into earthquake simulators. Powersoft has now been able to pack this technology into Mover for applications where a shorter travel and less force is required.

Mover may be used in conjunction with a Powersoft amplifier. In tandem with the new transducer, the company has launched an updated firmware version and subharmonic generator plug-in. This new algorithm transposes the pitch of the frequencies down in order to reproduce ultra-low frequency extension all the way down to 5 Hz.
