Sensape introduces gamified football experience with AI and AR

METRIX ID AR and AI football training Sensape

Users can create their own personal player cards to track their stats and progress

Sensape, a creator of unique immersive brand experiences, has worked with METRIX on a pop-up AR and AI football entertainment experience, METRIX: FOOTBALL RE-CODED, which opened in Westfield White City earlier this month.

The experience allows visitors to practice their shooting and accuracy on digital walls and improve their skills. It also uses background segmentation from Sensape to take visitors’ photos and use these to create their own player card, keeping track of their individual statistics and their progress across leaderboards.

Immersive football training

This immersive training experience is the first of its kind in Europe, allowing football enthusiasts to put their skills to the test in a new venue covering nearly 10,000 square metres. The intelligent training fields are able to automatically detect things like impact speed, point of impact and shooting position.

Sensape’s technology allows for a cutout photo to be taken, without green screen technology, for a player card, which is then used for the leaderboard and for players’ individual stats.

A personal 3D avatar is also in the works, which visitors will be able to add to their player card in the future. Using Sensape’s AI and AR technology, players will be able to create personalised avatars based on their own appearance, thanks to the software which automatically recognises the person in front of it in real-time. This will convert external features such as hair type, skin colour and facial shape, as well as hairstyles and beard shapes, to create a 3D avatar.

A unique experience

“We are excited to be a part of this new experience in London, which provides visitors with
a truly unique experience that combines real-life soccer skills and training with our unique AI and AR solution,” says Michael Lehnert from Sensape.

“As a brand, we’re committed to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible and for this project, we worked with a new framework that enables a fast and smooth experience for players, enabling cut out photos to be captured by our virtual recognition software without the need for green screen technology. We can’t wait to see visitors trying it out and experiencing it for themselves.”

Joe Tankel, Founder of The Brand Tank and Sensape’s UK partner, adds: “Metrix have created a fantastic site, and we are proud to bring our sensor technology and augmented reality (AR) to add to the experience.

“As we move into the next phase of development by creating personal avatars, the artificial intelligence (AI) from Sensape will create an even deeper connection between the real and the virtual world. We are looking forward to seeing visitors enjoy a truly immersive experience.”

Earlier this year, Sensape partnered with FC Bayern Munich to offer an augmented reality experience at the football club’s new store in Munich, Germany, allowing fans to have a photo taken with their favourite players, any time.
