Chessington World of Adventures in Surrey is opening a new land called ‘Shipwreck Coast’ on 15 July, described as a “disaster-ridden harbour town” with two new rides – ‘Barrel Bail Out’ and ‘Trawler Trouble’.

Inspired by coastal harbour towns, the “wild, wet and windy” land features nautical theming such as boats, sails, lighthouses, fishing nets and anchors. It replaces the park’s existing Pirates’ Cove land.

Guests will help the harbourmaster in ‘Barrel Bail Out’, jumping into barrels caught in a whirlpool and emptying them of water. Visitors will need to free a trapped fishing boat during ‘Trawler Trouble’.

“Our team have taken the much-loved Pirates’ Cove land and transformed it into this incredible harbour town, Shipwreck Coast,” says Kevin McIlmurray, Chessington’s head of guest experience.

“With stormy shores part of the everyday and adventures for all the family around every corner, we can’t wait to see our guests experience it, and of course meet our new resident animals!”

In addition to Barrel Bail Out and Trawler Trouble, Shipwreck Coast includes the ‘Blue Barnacle’ pirate ship ride and ‘Seastorm’ spinning galleon attraction.

Seastorm reopened in late June following a full refurbishment, while Blue Barnacle debuted in April 2021.

Animals to feature in the new land are Bagot goats, who will reside around Blue Barnacle, and black rats, who will live in a new enclosure at the entrance to Trawler Trouble.

Part of Merlin Entertainments, Chessington World of Adventures Resort boasts a theme park with more than 40 rides and attractions. It also has a zoo with more than 1,000 animals, as well as two themed hotels.

Chessington first opened as a zoo in 1931. In 2021, the resort opened a multimillion-pound drop tower ride called Croc Drop, its first new ride since 2013.
