South Korea’s tourism agency has just announced its rankings for 2016.
The Korea Culture and Tourism Institute reports that the Everland Resort was the most popular destination for both local and foreign visitors in 2016. 6.96 million people visited the amusement park in Yongin, located just south of Seoul.
Everland combines a variety of attractions. It has five themed areas (Global Fair, ZooTopia, European Adventure, Magic Land and American Adventure). Its large rollercoasters are vastly popular with its teen audience. It also boasts a water park. The park is famed for its location – the attractions blend very attractively into their natural surroundings.
This is the second year in a row that Everland has won the top ranking. However its visitor numbers were down by 6.2 per cent. October was apparently the park’s most successful month.
Second place was taken by Gyeongbok Palace in downtown Seoul. It garnered 6.02 million visitors, a rise of 18.9 per cent from the previous year. The attraction has moved up three places from the previous year.
KINTEX (The Korea International Exhibition Centre), located northwest of Seoul, came in third place.
