Italian company, Zamperla, is providing all the rides for the brand new Owa theme park coming to Alabama’s Gulf Coast.
The Owa theme park opens in May as part of a $500-million complex being developed by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.
According to an article in the LA Times, the 520-acre complex is set to include a shopping centre, hotels and a youth sports complex. There are future plans for a water park, condominiums and an RV park.
Owa theme park is being created around a lake and is being themed on a small Southern town.
Zamperla is providing three coasters, a number of thrill rides and a range of family attractions.
One of the coasters will be a clone of the 125-foot-tall looping steel coaster Thunderbolt at New York’s Coney Island, which features a 110-foot vertical lift and four inversions, including a dive loop, a corkscrew and a heart-line roll.
After Six Flags New Orleans was devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, there has been little in the region to attract thrill seekers.
Operators are hoping to pull in punters from neighbouring states, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi.
The park, which opens in May, is being billed as a more affordable alternative to Orlando’s Disney and Universal parks.
