Pipeline: The Surf Coaster will feature surfboard ride vehicles, with riders in a standing position.

SeaWorld Orlando’s seventh roller coaster has been unveiled as ‘Pipeline: The Surf Coaster’. The world’s first ‘surf coaster’ is opening in 2023.

Pipeline: The Surf Coaster features unique surfboard ride vehicles, with riders in a standing position as the seats rise and fall to mimic the sensation of riding on a wave.

Riders will experience “the rush of hanging loose on a massive wave”, said SeaWorld. The coaster includes five airtime moments, an innovative ‘wave curl’ inversion, and speeds of up to 60 mph.

As previously announced, ‘Arctic Rescue‘ at SeaWorld San Diego will be the longest and fastest straddle coaster on the West Coast. ‘Catapult Falls’, the world’s first launched flume coaster, is coming to SeaWorld San Antonio.

“2023 promises to be another exciting year for our SeaWorld parks as we introduce more new rides and experiences that cannot be found elsewhere,” said Marc Swanson, CEO of SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment.

“We strive to continually bring new thrills to our parks while also providing unique and engaging experiences with marine life that guests may not otherwise ever have a chance to have, all while knowing they are supporting an organization that has helped more than 40,000 animals in need over the last 55 years.”

Arctic Rescue will send riders on a frosty adventure as they attempt to help animals in danger at speeds of up to 40 mph along 2,800 feet of track on snowmobile-style ride vehicles. Guests will enjoy three launches at 34, 38 and 40 mph.

The ride is inspired by SeaWorld‘s animal rescue efforts and integrated with the Wild Arctic exhibit, home to a ringed seal, walruses and belugas.

As for Catapult Falls at SeaWorld San Antonio, the launched flume coaster will feature the world’s steepest flume drop. It will also be North America’s only vertical lift flume coaster and offer the tallest flume drop in Texas.

Elsewhere, Busch Gardens Williamsburg is opening the world’s first all-indoor straddle coaster, DarKoaster, in 2023. Also launching next year at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is the Serengeti Flyer pendulum-style swing.
