Media-based attraction maker Simworx is to supply a pirate-themed Immersive Tunnel attraction to Amikoo Resort Destination Theme Park, which is due to open in Mexico later this year.
Piratas de Bacalar will be a variation on The Curse of Blackstorm Bay attraction the company created in conjunction with Jora Vision, which is also working on the theming for the new ride. The experience will be based on the history of pirates in Mexico. It will see visitors take part in an adventure in the Caribbean Sea defending the San Felipe Bacalar Fort.
The attraction will utilise a single, 60-seat, 3DOF motion base. This will be themed as a pirate galleon. it will feature a seven metre high Immersive Tunnel screen with a 4K audio visual solution. In addition, it will be surrounded by a real water basin and include wind and water spray special effects.

Simworx sales director Edward Pawley said: “It will be a standalone attraction within the resort and will be a 50 minute experience in total, with a series of pre-shows leading up to the main ride element.
Not a standard immersive tunnel
“What’s unique about it is that it’s not a standard Immersive Tunnel. It is something new, with the 60-seat motion base and seven metre high screen. There will also be a restaurant and retail outlets in the same building. We are due to have the ride installed by March 2019.”
Amikoo is located on the Caribbean coast of Mexico, north of the resort city of Playa del Carmen. It is due to open later this year with 24 attractions. It will be split into four themed zones. These will be Park Maya Extreme, Maya Adventure, Maya Discovery, and Amikoo Land.
The $840 million theme park gets its name from the Mayan pronunciation of “amigo”, meaning friend. The park’s attractions will also celebrate local culture with cartoon characters representing figures adapted from Mexican stories and history.
