Super Mario-themed Power Up Cafe to serve dishes themed to Power-ups

Universal Studios Hollywood is preparing to celebrate the 1st anniversary of Super Nintendo World with new experiences including the Power Up Cafe.

Super Nintendo World‘s birthday is on 17 February. Ahead of this, on 15 February, the Super Mario-themed Power Up Cafe will open on New York Street on the park’s upper lot. Unlike the Toadstool Cafe, the new cafe is not located inside the land.

“We wanted the guests to be able to come in through the park and power up their day,” Julia Thrash, vice president of culinary and executive chef at Universal Studios Hollywood, told Eater LA.

The new F&B outlet will serve exclusive menu items themed to Power-ups in the video game like the Super Mushroom and Fire Flower.

“The inspiration is truly the Power-ups,” Thrash added. “We have four of them that are represented throughout the [decor and] menu: Super Star, Super Mushroom, 1-Up Mushroom, and Fire Flower.”

In addition to the cafe, California’s Nintendo land will debut a special golden Power-Up Band and a limited-edition button on 17 February.

Power-Up Bands are wearable wristbands that can be linked to smartphones to provide interactive experiences across Super Nintendo World. For example, guests can collect digital coins and compete with other visitors.

The first Super Nintendo World opened at Universal Studios Japan in 2021. The interactive land has now been confirmed for Universal Epic Universe in Orlando.

In more news, the world’s first Donkey Kong-themed area will open at Super Nintendo World in Japan in spring of this year.
