Disney Genie, a trip-planning app that puts existing tools in one place, debuts at Disney World on October 19.

Disney Genie, an app-based trip-planning service that offers existing planning features in one place, is set to debut at Walt Disney World Resort on October 19.

Built into the My Disney Experience app, Disney Genie combines services such as wait times, mobile ordering and park hours with guests’ interests in order to create personalised itineraries.

Disney Genie users can schedule dining reservations, check wait times for rides, join virtual queues, order food, pay for merchandise, and get help from a virtual assistant.

The free service includes a personalised itinerary feature that will quickly and seamlessly map out an entire day. Genie takes into account personal preferences, from specific rides and experiences to general interests such as Star Wars.

Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lane

Disney Genie is flexible, updating visitors’ itineraries throughout the day. Disney Genie+, a paid version of the app, will replace FastPass, FastPass+ and MaxPass.

Genie+ costs $15 per ticket per day at Disney World, giving guests access to Lightning Lanes at more than 40 attractions across the resort’s four theme parks, including:

  • Big Thunder Mountain, Haunted Mansion and Jungle Cruise at Magic Kingdom
  • Mission Space, Spaceship Earth and Test Track at Epcot
  • Slinky Dog Dash, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • Dinosaur, Kilimanjaro Safaris and Na’vi River Journey at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Some popular attractions, including Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, will not be available on Disney Genie+. Instead, Disney will use an individual Lightning Lane system for the following rides:

  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom
  • Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Frozen Ever After at Epcot
  • Rise of the Resistance and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Hollywood Studios
  • Avatar Flight of Passage and Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom

Pricing for individual Lightning Lane rides will vary. On launch day, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will cost $9 per person. Guests will only be able to make individual Lightning Lane purchases for two attractions per day.

“You’ll be able to tell Disney Genie what you’d like to do and experience, and it will present you with an optimal day,” said Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney parks, experiences and products, during a virtual event this year.

“If you change your mind for any reason, Disney Genie will re-optimize your day visit.”
