New artwork released by Disney on Monday reveal the new Marvel theme coming to the Rock ‘n Roller Coaster attraction at The Walt Disney Studios Paris theme park. This will be the first step in converting this section of the park into a new Marvel themed land that will feature the likes of Spider-Man, The Avengers, Dr. Strange, Black Panther and more. No further details were released other than to repeat that the existing coaster attraction will be re-imagined into “a high-speed, hyper-kinetic adventure”. Disney also confirmed that a second edition of the “Marvel Season of Super Heroes” event will return in 2019. It will likely include new heroes such as Groot and Captain Marvel.

2) Two coasters for Tayto Park?

Tayto Park announced earlier that they were planning to add a new €14 million steel coaster project to the park for 2021. However, new images discovered online said to be leaked from initial planning documents show that the project is actually two coasters instead of just one. One appears to be a smaller custom family shuttle coaster interwoven within the structure of a larger inverted coaster.

3) South Korea planning to build Paramount theme park

Less than a year ago, it was revealed that Paramount was no longer the theme to the proposed London Resort park project. However, now it seems the Paramount theming may be for another theme park deal in South Koreawhich was announced by Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment. According to the report, a Paramount themed park could be added in a future phase to the planned Inspire casino/resort set to open in 2022. If things move as planned, the park could open by 2025.

4) Sing: On Tour coming to Universal Studios Japan in 2019

A new musical attraction themed to the animated film “Sing” from Universal and Illumination Entertainment is coming to Universal Studios Japan in 2019. The show will be located inside the new “Illuminations Theater” venue; which I believe is being built on the site of the park’s former Horror Make-Up Show theater. The timing should work well as Illumination is working on a sequel to the first film; which is expected to hit theaters by late 2020.

5) Dinosaurs to return to Wild Adventures in 2019

Wild Adventures Dinosaur Explore

Wild Adventures announced that the Dinosaur Explore attraction which first opened for the 2016 season, will return in 2019 for another run. This latest version will replace last season’s Megabugs attraction and feature over 20 “larger-than-life” animatronic dinosaur figures. This will be the second new addition coming to the park for 2019, in addition to the previously announced alligator themed Discovery Outpost area.

6) Pigpen’s Barnyard coming to Worlds of Fun

Worlds of Fun has announced that the former Peanuts Playhouse structure will be re-purposed for a new interactive animal attraction in 2019, to be called Pigpen’s Barnyard Friends.

7) Soundwaves waterpark now open in Tennessee

Phase 1 of the new Soundwaves waterpark at the Gaylord Opryland resort is now open. This indoor section is 111,000 square-feet and spread out over three levels. It will feature five waterslides, a FlowRider Double stationary surf wave machine, an activity pool as well as both “rapid” and “lazy” rivers. While it may be cold outside, the temperature inside Soundwaves is kept at a warm 84ºF/29ºC. It is also worth noting that Soundwaves has an adults-only pool area; accessible by guests who are 18 years and older. The outdoor phase of the waterpark is expected to be finished by Summer 2019.

Construction has begun at Bay Beach Amusement Park (Green Bay, WI) to add a new 10-story tall ferris wheel attraction from Chance Rides. The addition of the wheel was the dream of Dawne Cramer. She had worked for her entire life in the local Parks & Rec department and helped develop the Friends of Bay Beach Organization. The latter is a non-profit group whose goal is to raise funds to help renovate and revitalize the Bay Beach Amusement Park. She passed away in 2017. The Big Wheel is being built in her memory between the park and many generous donors.

9) Casino Pier adding three more rides for 2019

In September, Casino Pier in New Jersey announced they would add a new ride, Centrifuge, to the park in 2019. This week they confirmed that three more new rides would also be added. The rides will be revealed between now and Christmas, with the first being the Mermaid Parade; a new kiddie flume ride.
