Kalahari Resorts and Conventions in the Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania, has opened America’s largest indoor waterpark.
The expanded facility occupies 220,000 square feet of ‘genuine attractions space’.
Highlights include eight new thrill slides, a wave pool, an enhanced area for children, an extended lazy river and additional adult swim-up bars.
Elsewhere, the resort has created an extra 520 rooms and suites, along with two new dining experiences and more, including a free-roaming virtual reality attraction ‘The Arena’. The warehouse-scale, multiplayer, VR gaming experience enables up to six people to explore, conquer and challenge each other.
The expansion has upped staffing to 1,400 jobs. This is a 60 percent increase since the resort opened in July 2015.
Kalahari Resorts and Conventions is authentically African themed. It is decorated with genuine handcrafted artwork. Rwandan coffee beans are served throughout the resort. Even the souvenirs have been sourced from local artisan communities throughout Africa.
The Nelson family, who own the resort, returned to Africa specifically to gain inspiration for the theming of the new attractions.
