Melbourne is set to be home tothe largest indoor-outdoor water park and surfing facility in the Southern Hemisphere. Following a protracted government approvalprocess, the newwater adventure park, named Surf 'n' Play Aquatic Park, has now been given the green light, reports Time Out.
Situated between Moorabbin and Mordialloc in the quiet suburb of Dingley Village in Melbourne's South East, the cutting-edge water park will cover a total area of 38,200 square metres indoors and outdoors.
The plan was initially pitched in 2019, and since then, developer The Pellicano Group has addressed several items raised. The result is 25% more landscaping in its design and double the amount of solar panels planned to power SurfnPlay Aqua Park.
Surfing and relaxing
There will be a dedicated surfing space on the property with wave pools that can produce waves as high as six feet tall. Up tofour distinct surfing zones willcaterto all skill levels,from novices to pros. It will also feature the standard water park attractions, including a longlazy river, gamified water tunnels, and six large water slides, catering to thrill seekers and families alike.
Melbourne already has the URBNSURF surf park, which opened in 2020 and uses Wavegarden technology. A new URBNSURF park will also be coming to Sydney Olympic Park.
Elsewhere in the city, Grande Experiences recently announced the opening of a new experience at its flagship venue, THE LUME Melbourne. Visitors can now enjoy Leonardo da Vinci—500 Years of Genius, which includes the original pages of Leonardo da Vinci ’s notebook, the Codex Atlanticus.
In January, Melbourne also welcomed the new Unko Museum, animmersiveand interactive experience with a focus on cute poo. It is a colourful space with light walls, games, displays, installations and photo opportunities.
