Nickelodeon Undersea Attraction for The Philippines Announced

Viacom’s Viacom International Media Networks unit has revealed plans to develop a Nickelodeon undersea attraction and resort in the Philippines. It will be the brand”s first themed resort in Southeast Asia.

The Nickelodeon undersea attraction will be part of a bigger project, Coral World Park Undersea. Styled as the world’s first undersea attraction, this  400-hectare park will be in the Philippine province of Coron, Palawan. It will open in a number of phases starting in 2018.

The Nickelodeon Undersea Attraction

The Nickelodeon area will open in 2020. It  will comprise 70 hectares for accommodation and 30 hectares for the themed attraction. It will highlight a number of the brand’s most popular characters, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants.  There will be an educational element to the attraction and it will advocate ocean protection.nickelodeon splay logo

Gerald Raines is senior vp global recreation for Viacom International Media Networks. He said, “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Coral World Park to open the world’s first undersea attraction and Nickelodeon’s first resort in Southeast Asia as we continue to expand on our theme-based attractions in Asia and across the world.

“This is yet another important step in boosting the Nickelodeon entertainment experience as we continue to give our fans, kids and their families, new ways to interact with the brand and the iconic characters they love.”

Coral Reef Conservation

Mark Whitehead is president and managing director of Viacom International Media Network Asia Pacific. He said, “Creating immersive on-the-ground consumer experiences are increasingly important. Hence, growing the recreational and consumer products footprint of the Nickelodeon brand in Asia Pacific is a priority for us.”

Uniquely, The Nickelodeon undersea attraction and resort will be sited on and among 16 small islands. These islands are five to 20 minutes apart by speedboat. Developers say visitors will enjoy “a  multi-island experience”. They can look forward to hot springs, shipwreck diving, island hopping together with a wildlife reserve. Furthermore, the project encompass the biggest coral reef conservation program in Asia.

Nickelodeon is growing its resort and attraction business in Asia. Just last week it announced it had broken ground on its first resort in Asia,  the Nickelodeon Cultural Resort in the Chinese city of Foshan. The brand’s Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon, the first Nickelodeon theme park in Asia is open at Sunway Lagoon in Malaysia.
