For Halloween 2025, Blackpool's Pleasure Beach has introduced a new eerie experience that allows guests to walk through a 120-year-old ride in darkness.

The UK theme park has opened its Journey to Hell event, and with it the new 'Abyss' scare zone, which lets guests journey through the River Caves ride in near darkness.

River Caves, which was built in 1905, has been given a hell theme for the Halloween experience, and features live actors lurking behind the ride’s famous scenes from around the world.

According to Pleasure Beach, filmmaker Tim Burton has said he has used the River Caves ride as inspiration for his work.

CEO of Pleasure Beach Resort, Amanda Thompson OBE, said: “Journey to Hell is now in its sixth year and continues to push the boundaries of immersive, live entertainment, which is exactly what people are looking for at this time of year.

“It’s important to us to never stand still and to lean into the things that make us so special."

Thompson added, "This year’s addition of the 120-year-old River Caves as a scare zone is a way for us to draw on something that no other scare event in the area has – our fascinating history.

“It’s a perfect example of how we blend our incredible heritage with innovation to create truly unforgettable experiences.”

Journey to Hell's other scare zones for this year include 'Down the Rabbit Hole', which transforms the park's Alice in Wonderland ride into a nightmarish world.

Another ride-based zone, 'The Ghost Train: Vault of Shadows' is set inside one of the world's most haunted attractions.

'Cabinet of Curiosities' is another scare zone at the Halloween event, while the 'Twisted Tunnels' scare zone takes place in a 100-year-old passageway that's usually closed to the public.

In addition to the scare zones, there are unlimited rides after dark on Pleasure Beach’s Launch Pad ride, the Grand National coaster, Derby Racer, and Flying Machines.

Journey to Hell also includes live music and entertainment, including roaming actors, a witch parade, fire breathers, and a seven-foot-tall werewolf called Lougarock.

Themed F&B is also on offer at the event, which runs nightly through 1 November.
