Boost for Tourism, Commerce as Dubai Opens Canal

News

Dubai inaugurated a new canal on Wednesday Yesterday (Nov 9),  The Dubai Water Canal, which gives the city a new 4 mile waterfront from the city’s growing Business Bay commercial district to the Gulf.

The emirate’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) chief, Mattar al-Tayer said the new waterway,  between 80 and 120 metres in width, will “add a unique tourist and commercial showpiece” to the city.

The three-year construction project, which cost US$735 million would also provide “a new residential district, tourist attractions and recreational facilities including several hotels, restaurants and entertainment” in addition to four hotels,  a new shopping centre and over 400 restaurants.
