Funlandia will showcase PlayMaze at IAAPA Expo Asia in Hong Kong
Funlandia, a global provider of indoor play solutions, developed its PlayMaze product around the idea that the next stage of product evolution should be defined not only by how a park looks but also by how it behaves.
Many indoor parks in the family entertainment centre market face a common challenge: their attractions are becoming increasingly similar. While soft play structures, climbing nets, slides, and themed walls remain essential, they no longer provide sufficient differentiation.
When opening a new venue, operators compete not only against established FEC brands but also against more affordable suppliers that can quickly replicate basic themes, colour schemes, and visual elements.
Funlandia’s PlayMaze isn’t a typical static maze where players just look for the exit. It turns the maze into a dynamic mechanical adventure, with moving pathways, themed settings, and interactive obstacles that react with motion, airflow, light, and visual illusions.
Creating memorable moments
The true strength of this kind of attraction lies in its ability to produce moments that cannot be easily duplicated through decoration alone, says Funlandia.
While a printed wall or dinosaur theme can be replicated, it is the timing, rhythm, and physical unpredictability of moving elements that deliver a significantly more memorable experience for guests.
Inside PlayMaze, features like the Tricky Ladder transform a simple climb into a fun challenge. As players ascend, the steps shift and subtly interrupt rhythm, promoting coordination over speed. The experience emphasises surprise and laughter rather than fear.

The Vortex Tunnel offers another effect: guests walk on a stable surface while the surrounding cylinder rotates, creating a compelling illusion of movement and imbalance. Additional elements such as rotating disks, moving steps, wind effects, and conveyor interactions provide ongoing physical engagement throughout the experience.
For operators, this is important because repeat visits are often motivated by memory rather than novelty. Guests might not remember every slide or wall graphic, but they do recall the moment a ladder “outsmarted” them, a tunnel that disoriented their senses, or a sudden burst of air that sparked shared laughter.

PlayMaze exemplifies Funlandia’s broader product development strategy. The company integrates creative design, engineering, manufacturing, and project delivery, all while adhering to international safety standards.
Its aim isn't to add unnecessary complexity to attractions but to develop interactive products that are safe, dependable, practical for operation, and commercially valuable.
