LA’s Getty Museum has announced the return of its ‘Becoming Artsy’ series on YouTube, hosted by the museum’s senior creative producer Jessie Hendricks.

The first episode of the new season, Jousting, is available to stream now. New episodes of Becoming Artsy will be released every other Tuesday.

In the first season, which launched last year, Hendricks took viewers on a journey through the museum’s collections, laboratories and gardens. She also interviewed several Getty professionals.

“Art is this incredible and massive thing with the subtle power to completely transform the way we see the world,” Hendricks said in October. “I’m so excited I get to share that with people. Plus, I get to play dress up!”

“Jessie embodies a humorous, warm presence that makes the art world feel more inclusive, rather than intended for a certain type of person,” added Christopher Sprinkle, lead creative producer at the Getty.

Educational and engaging content

The first season served as an introduction to the Getty and its programmes, while the second explores topics such as anatomical art, how to create ultramarine and art conservation experiments.

Becoming Artsy was created to offer educational and engaging content in a fresh format, which we hope will introduce many new audiences to art and history,” said Lisa Lapin, the Getty’s vice president of communications.

Hendricks earned a Master of Science in Science Writing from MIT. Prior to MIT, she graduated from Hampshire College with a BA in Natural Sciences.

She has worked for several institutions, including the Pacific Science Center in Seattle and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.

In more news, the Getty Museum is returning a group of illegally excavated Orpheus sculptures to Italy in September.
