Google Tango Powers AR Lumin Tour at Detroit Institute of Arts

Detroit Institute of Arts Lumin AR Tour with Google Tango

Google brings it’s Tango technology to the Detroit Institute of Arts to create an augmented reality layer for the experimental Lumin tour.

The initial phase of the project includes seven tour stops with a variety of AR experiences.

Google has worked with GuidiGO to build the museum app.  GuidiGO and Google previously collaborated on museum apps based around Google Glass.  Tango augmented reality technology is seen as technology that is likely to be more successful than Google Glass, offering a more Pokémon GO like experience.

Examples of the kind of information that visitors will be able to access are X-ray views of ancient Egyptian mummies, and representations of how faded Mesopotamian sculptures would have looked before weathering.
