Leach delivers cohesive visual identity for award-winning Burrell Collection

Burrell Collection

Refurbished museum in Scotland went on to take this year’s Art Fund Museum of the Year prize

Leach, a leader in graphic display solutions for museums, visitor attractions and commercial interiors, was chosen as the graphics contractor for Glasgow’s Burrell Collection, which reopened in March 2022 after a six-year refurbishment project. As part of this project, Leach’s brief was to introduce a cohesive visual identity throughout the site by providing extensive signage systems, both internally and externally.

The aim of the renovation project was to improve the museum’s sustainability and accessibility, thus preserving the iconic collection for future generations of visitors. Just over a year after its reopening, the Burrell Collection was named the Art Fund Museum of the Year.

A wide range of high-quality products from Leach was used on the site, including printed Corian and ceiling banners.

“The project was one of paramount significance to the local community and it was critical that every aspect was spot on,” says the company. “We worked with The Burrell on producing samples and prototypes over a two-year period to ensure that every aspect of the project was carefully considered and that the end result would be successful.”

Leach’s manufacturing capabilities mean that it can cater to all parts of a project. The firm delivered a variety of solutions, from small format case labels that complement the collection to large format draped ceiling banners, used to transform the space.

“Parts of the collection sit in a listed building,” adds Leach. “Therefore, when we were installing the signage packages, we ensured that we remained sensitive to the strict regulations and did not disturb the walls.

“Our installation team has years of experience and hours of preparation go into ensuring our projects go to plan. As a result of the team’s commitment to quality and attention to detail, the finished project is of exceptional quality.”

Event, the experience design agency, was selected to take this project from the overall masterplan for the renewal through to the design of the exhibitions. BECK, a leading restoration and refurbishment fit-out specialist, was the lead fit-out contractor, and Lumsden, a design firm specialising in retail and F&B for visitor attractions, designed the museum’s retail environment.

Earlier this year, Leach announced it was launching a new eco product range, with a selection of environmentally-friendly fabrics.
